Elif Perincek, just three years old, was found in the earthquake wreckage in Smyrna (fig. 06). The girl was buried for 65 hours, and upon be- ing rescued, her images quickly spread. We emphasize that the picture’s origin links to an amateur radio station; therefore, it is not a hegemonic journalistic production, but later it was ac- quired by Reuters. All the pictures gathered here involve conflicts or tragedies with a number of victims, condensed on the chil- dren’s faces. From this set, all photographs/videos referred to survivors; they were produced by amateur photographers and later acquired by agencies, such as Reuters and Associated France Press (AFP), and widely disseminated. However, they were also registered in spaces of social media actors such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, including networks from in- stitutions such as the UN and UNICEF.
