Mediatized Sapiens: Communicational knowledge

Circulation of faces: from the magic formula to resistance 167 of the moment, and their programmed non-plasticity enhances them in circuits. We can observe that all the images are put into circulation by two movements: the journalistic and the social phagia4. Nevertheless, it is noteworthy that their permanence in circulation is determined by the duration of the debates on the agendas to which they refer, almost all social conflicts arising from political crossings. We also noted that these pictures were already produced for circulation, considering the characteristics of previous images, including that of the Afghan girl. Finally, the case of this article contains another observable: the images of children’s faces from the conflicts in the fave- las of Rio de Janeiro. As our axis anchors in two aspects: the face, and images of conflict, we come across photographs that relate to the murders of children in Brazil. Between 2018 and 2021, there are already more than dozens of dead children, many of whom had no repercussions. Among them, we highlight João Pedro, 14, who died during quarantine, at home, amid a police operation. João’s image is limited to a single family-archive pho- tograph. The same can be said of Agatha Felix, eight years old, Marcus Vinicius, 14 years old, Kauê Ribeiro, 12 years old, and Kauan Peixoto, 12 years old. Their faces were coupled as a refer- ence image (to whom they report) but without the impingement to circulate. 4 The idea of social phagia was presented by ROSA (2016) as one of the movements of intermedia circulation and can be translated by the exacerbated consumption of determined images by social actors and journalistic institutions.
