Mediatized Sapiens: Communicational knowledge

There are many merits of the International Seminar on Mediatization and Social Processes proposed and coordi- nated by Midiaticom, Research Group of the Graduate Pro- gram in Communication at Unisinos. Among those merits, the smallest was not the edition of its IV meetings held in No- vember-December 2020 and January 2021. Divided into four thematic conference sessions, it had the participation of recognized names in the national and international scene, who presented results of investigations on constant themes of interest presented, in this book, in four parts: Mediatization and the social construction of reality; Logic, algorithms, plat- forms, and metrics; Event, circulation, and consumption; Pro- duction of knowledge/criticism, power, social mediatization. In these themes' development, we apprehend that the concept of mediatization is defined and, in this sense, would be an outdated issue. However, since the first seminar in 2016, the question has been asked: what is mediatiza- tion, and what do people think about it? Therefore, it is not an outdated issue, but it is very current; it must be debated and, most of all, presented in the interface of other issues that may relate to it or the consequences of its multiple axes of analysis.
