ABSTRACT: The paper discusses dimensions of an answer to the following question: How and why is the mediatization of the “Yellow Vest” movement associated with political and religious references in the French public space, which has always been re- fractory to an amalgam between religion and politics (Bratosin & Jauffret, 2018)? In order to answer this question, the hypoth - esis tested here is that mythic-religious thinking ontologically reconnects religion and politics as a foundation of the public space (Tudor et al., 2018) and at the same time it is a thinking that affirms and defends its lay and secular character. From this perspective, the analysis will cover a corpus of media products publicly available between October 2018 and April 2019. The presentation of the results is organized in four parts: (a) “Yellow Vests”: political and religious foundations; (b) “Yellow Vests”: publicization of religion; (c) “Yellow Vests”: spiritualization of politics; (d) “Yellow Vests”: mediatization of the movement. Introdução: posições, abordagem e método Aparecido no espaço público francês ao fim do ano de 2018, o movimento popular conhecido posteriormente pelo nome de Gilets Jaunes (Coletes Amarelos) – em razão de suas vestimentas amarelas que deram alta visibilidade como signo da aglutinação – foi objeto de uma midiatização acionada também através das mídias de massa e dos novos meios (redes sociais). A característica incrível e desconcertante da novidade do mo- vimento Gilets Jaunes , transgeracional e transprofisisonal, é sua desvinculação de todos os partidos políticos, todos os sindicatos e todas as formas precedentes de organização dos movimentos sociais, que recusa a designação de chefes, desestabilizando, en- tre outros aspectos, as práticas jornalísticas, colocando em des- taque muitos aspectos do funcionamento midiático antes menos visíveis.
