Midiatização, polarização e intolerância (entre ambientes, meios e circulações)

José Luiz Braga 298 ABSTRACT: The article proposes that intolerance reaches its most problematic degree when structured as polarization and makes a communicational approach to the internal mechanisms of this structure. It explains communication as a work of articu- lating differences that organizes sharing and inferences of ad- justment. The central item of the article elaborates the defini - tion of polarization as the inevitable coexistence of opponents, restricted to the supercode of their exacerbated difference in bi- nary structure, excluding inferences related to other dimensions, and whose actions cannot fail to interfere with each other. It also discusses aspects of symmetry and asymmetry of the structure. It makes an observation of angles through which polarization is related to the mediatization of society. The conclusion, pointing out the difficulty of dismantling the polarized structure, shows some challenges involved in this confrontation in the country. KEYWORDS: Polarization. Intolerance. Communication. 1. Introdução A intolerância atravessa a história, como uma questão referida aos desafios da civilização. Considerando a pluralidade dos seres humanos – em comportamento, culturas, interesses e opiniões, motivações e preferências, além das diferenças social- mente produzidas –, observa-se com frequência uma recusa entre assumidos como diferentes, levando a uma intolerância opresso- ra, malgrado a importância hoje percebida (mas pouco realizada) de reconhecimento e valorização da diversidade humana. Voltaire, em seu Tratado da tolerância , argumentou que o direito à intolerância é absurdo e bárbaro: é o direito dos tigres, e isso é horrível, pois os tigres não estraçalham senão para comer, e nós nos ex- terminamos por parágrafos (1763, p. 39 – tradu- ção nossa). Certamente, toda intolerância é absurda e bárbara – mas se torna particularmente detestável em situações polariza- das, que estimulam sua exacerbação, desenvolvendo uma orga- nização estruturadora de comportamentos humanos.
