Circulation: from the passage zone to the ambiance of interpenetrations of meanings 175 It is worth remembering that the functionalist perspective abstracts the nature of the production/reception relation- ship, particularly the difference between these components, admitted only as a kind of “mismatch” between their logics and operations. Instead of emphasizing distance and difference, the logic of linearization is emphasized, reinforcing, for this, the su- premacy of the speaker as the performer of an emissional act (and generator of a certain effectiveness). It is a formulation that is based on a reductionist conception of the act of communica- tion, not complexifying the differentiation between grammars and logics of production and reception. Such an understanding ignores that the interactional process occurs according to inevitable discontinuities, according to angles recalled by the theory of complexity. Thus, the valorization of the communication process according to a mere transmissional emphasis is highlighted. In this sphere, circulation is understood as a zone of passage, without strains and entanglements with other instances, and situated only as the “intermediate link” at the service of the transferability of the issuing act. Under these conditions, the functionalist point of view, by not recognizing the complex materiality of circulation, could not strain it beyond the “impressions” of its own actional beliefs. 2. Complexifying the circulation Paying attention to the problem of circulation implies examining it in different temporalities, considering, as an observational horizon, the study of discursive manifestations constructed in the sphere of the journalistic field, also considering the context of ongoing mediatization. More specifically, the description of marks of nature and functioning of the links between producers and receivers, involving aspects such as the existence of self-referential messages and their effects on insti- tutional practices and structures of knowledge production. In addition, it is pertinent to observe other mutations that manifest themselves in the journalistic professional ambi- ance, as well as its discursive practices and interactions with readers. It is assumed that the complex transformations in cir-
