Platforms, algorithms and AI: Issues and hypotheses in the mediatization perspective

269 On hypermediatization as a process and hypermediatized societies as an outcome. A nonanthropocentric approach1 Sobre la hipermediatización como proceso y las sociedades hipermediatizadas como resultado Un enfoque no antropocéntrico Mario Carlón2 Abstract: The thesis defended here is that mediatization stud- ies are not about media, media systems (mass media, social networks), social fields (politics, sport, justice, etc.), or any particular phenomena (events, robot influencers, political dem- onstrations). They deal with all of these, of course. But, above all, they study at different levels meta-processes and outcomes, medium- and long-term processes capable of shaping the semi- otic network in which we and large-scale culture are immersed at all levels of society (including interactions between humans and non-humans). In this field, hypermediatization is a meta- process specific to our contemporaneity, and its outcome is that, through a process of hypersemiotization, it defines one of the constitutive faces of contemporary society.
