Platforms, algorithms and AI: Issues and hypotheses in the mediatization perspective

Platformed interaction in the multipolar world Journalism, autocracy, and democracy 65 media supported by its values. It was with the emergence of social media networks and the popularization of smartphones, just over a decade ago, that in Brazil, as in other parts of the world, a certain failure of the canonical pattern of professional journalism occurred. The disruptive phenomenon in communication has emerged, constructed based on polarizing principles, no longer agglutinating ones. Rocha (2021, 2023), for example, points out the existence of a Bolsonaro mediasphere to address the cogni- tive dissonance at play in the circulation of polarizing narratives. Along the same lines, I understand that Cunha et al. (2020) emphasize the appeal to create panic within WhatsApp bubbles as a significant process in the media ecosystem. The polarizing dynamic is established upon, or from, the structural coupling provided by media platforms and leads to the emerging reality of a different order of newsworthiness. An order that classifies, sorts, and dictates distribution. Newsworthiness can then be situated analogously to the order of discourse in Foucauldian terms (Foucault, 1996), insofar as it is proper to a specific period, has a regulatory, normative function, and sets in motion procedures for organizing the real. And the old order of newsworthiness has been overthrown by the conflicting news activity of new actors, no longer committed to sustaining or challenging the standards of the corporate media, supported by commercial processes such as advertising. I find it pertinent to consider that in the old radial system, in the Brazilian context, there was a media ecosystem of the elite, with rules of formal language, Enlightenment ideals, and an agenda of consensus among the ruling classes established by print journalism. News coverage that reproduced so- cial asymmetries. The radial system assumes the centrality of the media in the task of organizing the interactional processes between so- cial fields. There would be what Fausto Neto (2008) points out as alignment, the instance of production preceding the instance of reception or recognition of contents. Diverse operators emerge in the circuit system, deepeningwhat Braga (2006b) describes as reference interactional processes. Therefore, platforms emerge as ingenious drivers of these reference interactional processes. The new dynamics undertaken refer to the horizon of a deep
