The contemporary construction of events Mario Carlón1 Abstract: This article analyzes what happened with the hyper- mediatization and the circulation of meaning in the presenta- tion of President Alberto Fernández in the National Congress in March 2020. Three moments were analyzed: before, during, and after the speech. We analyzed the circulation of meaning from social networks to mass media and from mass media to social networks in vertical-horizontal directions (ascending, descend- ing, and horizontal). The circulation was incessant during the three moments. An ethnographic analysis of what happened at the Plaza del Congreso was also carried out and the main social actors were identified. The results show that there was a strong pre-construction of the event through hashtags for and against the President and on one of the issues he referred to, abortion. Also, social actors who were not present in the plaza, mainly in favor of abortion, had an intense production of content after the President referred to this issue. Keywords: Hypermediatization.
