Mediatization of science: a conceptual approach and applicability in academic research
Abstract
This theoretical article discusses the mediatization pathways adopted by the communication area based on the works of leading authors who approach the subject, such as the Danish Stig Hjarvard, the German Andreas Hepp and the Argentine Eliseo Verón. In addition to the term mediatization of science focused on the relationship between media phenomena that involve science, the media and society from applications in research conducted in Brazil. As a result, it signals that although the term mediatization appeared in the 30s, only in the 90s, from the 20th century it gained strength in communication research by addressing media technologies and society, and the term mediatization of science in the Brazilian research scene contributes significantly to the understanding of the topic.
